St. Petersburg, FL – (October 26, 2020) Palms of Pasadena Hospital now offers a minimally invasive procedure to assist bariatric surgery patients who are challenged after surgery with continued weight loss. The endoscopic procedure is performed through a thin, flexible tube that is inserted through the mouth to reach the stomach, offering patients an easy and safe option to repair an enlarged pouch outlet that can occur over time.
“We’re excited to add this new option to our comprehensive bariatrics surgery program,” said Tiffany Jessee, DO, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Director of Florida Bariatric Centers at Palms of Pasadena Hospital who performed the procedure. ”For patients who qualify, this is an alternate option that does not involve the traditional risks associated with gastric revision surgery.”
Weight gain is possible after weight loss surgeries, making revision procedures necessary to restore the initial surgical result. Traditional revision surgery can be challenging as scar tissue and adhesions from the initial weight loss procedure can make the surgery more difficult and complex, taking longer, and resulting in increased complications. The endoscopic option eliminates many of these risks. Patients often can go home the same day as the procedure and return their normal routine in as little as 48 hours. After the endoscopic procedure, patients follow the same diet and exercise regimen they did after their initial gastric bypass surgery. Patients will continue to be supported by the Florida Bariatric Centers at Palms of Pasadena Hospital experts in their ongoing weight loss journey.
